Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Basically, open the book you’re currently reading and share a couple of sentences from that page on your blog. Avoid spoilers of course.
Ramone nodded and pointed his chin in the direction of a photo on the prosecutor’s desk. “How’s the family?”
“I suspect they’re good. Maybe I’ll take some time off this year and find out.”
from The Night Gardener by George Pelecanos, p. 95
Haha, I like that–and I’ve always felt that quippy dialogue like that is easy to mess up!
Is this a thriller? I hadn’t heard of it, so thanks for sharing. 🙂
My teaser for this week is here!
Quippy dialogue is very fun. And it is a thriller, set in D.C.
Oh, ouch- but what a nicely offhand way to indicate estrangement. (I’ve been reading terrible thrillers recently, so this is just lovely.) I hope you enjoy it!
Here’s my teaser.
Yeah, I thought it was a nice bit of dialogue right there. There was another one on the page that I almost chose but it was longer.
And a good thriller can be hard to find sometimes. I’ve just begun this one (I haven’t even reached the page the teaser is on) and I’m hopeful.
That sounds straight out of The Wire… which is no surprise since Pelecanos used to write for it, I guess! 🙂
Mine’s at http://hampshireflyer.wordpress.com/2010/03/30/teaser-tuesday-9/
I just read a part following some low-level criminals that heavily reminded me of the Wire (I’ve only seen the first season of that show but I was very impressed by it.)
I hope that you enjoy your book. Here’s mine.
Nice 🙂 Sounds like a fun read- snappy 🙂
